The ‘notorious’ fashion style of Conor McGregor
Professional fighters, whether it be boxing or mixed martial arts (MMA), have long been looked at as ‘thuggish’ type people due to the aggressive nature of their sport.
But there’s been a lot of talk recently around this ‘new era’ of combat sports where the competitors are now getting rid of the negative labels and stereotypes that were once attached to the profession, and are now being referred to as athletes.
One of the reasons for this is one; because of how mainstream the sport has become, and two; because of the way the athletes present themselves.
The man who has made a point of this more than others is Irishman, ‘The Notorious’ Conor McGregor, who recently became the UFC Interim Featherweight Champion, the most prestigious award for this weight division in the world.
Throughout the media obligations, whether it be a media day, TV appearance or a press conference, McGregor is always dressed to the nines in the finest threads money can buy. Traditionally fighting and fashion don’t go hand in hand, but in Conor’s opinion what you wear says a lot about you as a person, something that we at Andrew Brookes Tailoring strongly believe in.
Conor is someone who believes that when at the pinnacle of your sport you have to dress to impress. He’s not putting on a show for anyone, this is just his particular sense of style, and will never miss the opportunity to show it off.
“If you give me have a chance to wear a suit, I’m going to come in with a custom suit made from scratch, straight from the fabric, fitted perfectly on my fantastic physique.”
He is extremely patriotic and loves the Irish look of hand-woven tweed, check patterns, dicky bows, handkerchieves and flat caps, similar to the gentleman’s look that was the style of the 1920s-1930s. A timeless style in our opinion.
There’s an aura of confidence in the way Conor presents himself, and not only is this due to the confidence in his ability, but the way he dresses assists his bravado, similar to the personality once portrayed by the great Muhammad Ali, who was a pretty sharp dresser himself.

“You’re popping the collar off the clothes and then putting them on after the session. You have that rush of endorphins from your workout and then you\’re putting on fresh, new clothes. There\’s no better feeling than that for me. I love doing that at home when I\’ve finished at the gym. And you best believe I love doing it here on fight night as well.”
His unique fashion style and the way he talks, as well as his fighting of course, has helped keep the attention on him, and his made him stand out in an industry full of very interesting and unique individuals.
We’re not the only ones who have noticed Conor’s notorious fashion sense. It would seem that the people at VIP Style Awards thought he was the ‘Most Stylish Man’ of 2014.
