From stitches to pixels; a digital age tailor
These days there’s a lot of talk around moving with the times and how we are now in the digital era, with the rise in popularity of social media and the advances in technology, but who knew that this would be applicable to tailoring?
It was brought to our attention that a character from the very popular video game ‘Minecraft’, was spotted wearing nothing other than an Andrew Brookes Tailoring original garment! At first we were a bit shocked, but when you think about it, video game characters have the right to look as dapper as the people playing the games, do they not?
So how did this come about? The game’s developer, Chris Van Der Kuyl, is actually a client of ours, and he decided that his character would the sharpest looking avatar in the Minecraft world, and not because everyone is made up of blocks!
In recent years, we have designed a few bespoke suits for Chris, one of which he actually wore when accepting the BAFTA Games Award for Minecraft in March of this year. Chris’s suit was an extremely fun project to work on. After meeting with him for the first time, we soon realised that this was going to be a project to remember.
If you’ve read our previous blogs, you’ll know that we’re all about tailoring to suit each individual client’s vibe, and Chris’s vibe was very exciting to tailor to. After the same procedure we go through with all of our clients, we presented Chris with his bespoke tweed suit. The jacket had a handmade suede top collar and ticket jett. We included alternating lapel button holes to match the check.
Scalloped flaps with pin tucks, 6 button working cuffs with alternate button holes, again to match the check. We then lined the suit with iridescent shot twill that matches both tweeds. Finally, handmade tweed ties to top off the outfit.
As you can see, not all the details are visible in Chris’s digital version of himself, but we think that the transfer from stitches to pixels has worked quite well, and it does our work justice, even in the digital world.
